Dairy Free Nothing but Fruit Popsicles (No Refined Sugar Added)

Friday Frozen Day ♥♥

With the weather getting warmer  and warmer everyday, I think we could all agree that we need something that will cool us off and keep us feeling refresh. Since it is Summer, I am making a seasonal post just for the Summer season and this will happen on Fridays. I am calling it Friday Drinks and Frozen Day 🙂 The post will mostly be about Summer drinks and frozen treats to keep up cool and comfy during the Summer season. If it is not Summer where you are right now, do not worry because you can always go back and search for these recipes whenever Summer arrives in your area or you are just feeling to get chilled. Some of the drinks that I am sharing here can be made any day of the year, i say bring the ice cream out on Winter 🙂

Dairy Free Fruit Popsicle

This Nothing But Fruit Popsicle is just all about fruits, real fresh, all natural fruit plus no sugar added. I’m loving everyday of Summer.

Happy Friday Guys! We are switching to frozen treats today instead of our usual Friday Drink Day, today it’s Friday Frozen Day because we all need more than 1 way to cool off during Summer. I call this Friday frozen treat as “Nothing But Fruit Popsicle” because that’s really what this is. All you need are fruits, fruits that have natural sweetness in it, fruits that are naturally juicy. I’ve used Mango, Strawberry and Kiwi as combo to make this Popsicle but you can use any fruits that you like.

Homemade Fruit Ice Pops

When I was a kid  in the Philippines, I remembered eating “Ice Candy” which is a water based frozen confection. Sometimes called as freezie, ice pop, popsicle or ice candy in the Philippines. The most common one that we have is the coconut milk ice candy sometimes with fresh grated young coconut in it. Another favorite one is a milk cantaloupe ice candy, avocado, mango and chocolate. I wouldn’t  say I have outgrown them, but I do not make it as much now that I live in Vancouver. I guess weather is a huge factor because we only have about 3 months of Summer. Now that I am doing my Friday Drink and Frozen Day, I thought this would be a good opportunity to get bring back childhood  memories and introduce new flavors my old time favorite ice candy.  This Nothing But Fruit Popsicle is made with nothing but fruits. No dairy,  no sugar, just fruits.

How does unsweetened popsicle taste?

This popsicle rely solely in the natural sweetness of the fruits. The sweetness level  is VERY low, this is almost like a naturally flavored fruit ice. It is refreshing,  but if you are not used to unsweetened frozen treats, you might find that it is lacking sweetness. But then again,  if you can eat fresh fruits without adding any sugar in it, then it will be just like that but in frozen state.

Can I  make popsicles with sweetener?

Yes of course. I intentionally did not add any dairy and sugar in this popsicles but you can definitely add sweetener of your choice. Honey will  a good option or a sugar syrup  (boiled water +  sugar). I would  say about 2 tbsp honey for every 1 cup of pureed fruits, but you can certainly increase or decrease it to your preference.

Real Fruit Popsicles

How do you make all fruit Popsicle with no sugar?

Simple. Choose fruits that you love, I recommend using fresh fruits to make this Popsicle. You’ll need fruits that are naturally sweet and juicy because we are not adding any sugar in it. Whatever fruit you select, blend the fruits separately and transfer in a measuring cup or any cup with spout for easy pouring. Pour the puréed fruits in the popsicle mold alternately until you fill all the mold. Freeze overnight. That’s how simple it is.

How to know how much fruit puree needed for the size of your popsicle mold

Bear in mind that the amount of fruits needed will depend on the size of the popsicle mold you are using. To see how much you need, fill a popsicle mold with water then transfer the water in a measuring cup. Whatever the measurement, multiply it by the number of popsicle mold you want to fill. Mine was 1/2 cup per popsicle mold, so for 6 mold that would be 3 cups of liquid.

How to remove the Popsicle from the mold

Removing the popsicle could be frustrating at times, but if you know how to properly do it, it will not drive you crazy. If you are using a non-silicone mold like what I have, pour a warm water in a large jar then quickly dip in and out the Popsicle mold. Pull the handle to loosen it, continue dipping until it totally loosens. This will allow easy release. Make sure not to have the water too hot, you don’t want to melt the Popsicle even before you get to take it out. Alternatively, you can also run it under a warm water (from the faucet) and keep on rotating to warm both sides of the popsicle. If you can find a silicone mold, that would make your life easier, but in case you cannot then just follow this simple step and you’ll get the popsicle out ready to enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Mango Puree
  • 1 cup Strawberry Puree
  • 1 cup Kiwi Puree

Instructions:

  1. Puree the Fruits Separately: Transfer fruits in a blender and puree. Do this separately for each of the fruit you are using.
  2. Pour in the Popsicle Mold: Pour the mixture alternately in the popsicle mold. Leave at least 1-inch on top, about the line where the handle ends. For mold like this, avoid filling it to the top as you will have a difficulty eating the portion stuck under the handle. If you are using the mold where you have to put the popsicle stick, then you can fill to the top.
  3. Freeze: Freeze for a minimum 5 hours, but overnight freezing is recommended.
