I am not a coffee drinker but I am really excited about visiting the Starbucks Reserve in Chicago. This roastery opened in November 2019 on the city’s Magnificent Mile. This so so far the largest Starbucks in the world with 5 levels to sit, relax, eat and sip your favourite freshly brewed coffee. 5 stories! Imagine that 🙂 I was so excited to tour this place and I cannot wait to share with you my visits to this place. I’ll show you what they have in every level and I will try few (or more) of their items.

Let check them out. Let’s go!
I visited this place quite a few times when I was in Chicago. It was bit of a walk from CitizenM Hotel where I stayed but I do not really mind because often time I stop by after my run and my visit to other attractions. One thing I made sure is to visit this place during the day and also at night. If you’ve seen my Chicago posts, you know by know that I love the night scene, the lights and the vibe.

Before I visited this place I told myself this is such a large place for just coffee. Can they actually fill this space with customers? Oh well, I got my answer when I visited this place. 5 storey and it was always packed with people when I visited it on different times of the day. Packed like there was a lineup outside and most of the seating are occupied.

I noticed that Friday evening and weekends are the busiest. It does make sense as this place a nice place to hangout and catchup with people. If you want a quieter time, try to visit early morning as soon as they opened. Enjoy the peace for few minutes before all the people rush in. I was surprised how quickly the place got packed with people, it did not even took 30 minutes.

Inside & Out
Seeing this place from outside is already mesmerizing because of the very elegant design of the building, plus it is a 5 storey building just for Starbucks. If you think that the outside view was impressive, wait till you see the inside and explore every level of this building. This is a 5 stories building with 35,000 square feet of space. This huge building was formerly the flagship store of Crate and Barrel.

Food & Drinks

This place have a variety of pastries as well as savory breakfast or brunch items. They have pasta, pizza, fresh fruits & yogurt, shakshuka and more. As for the drinks, they have both hot and cold coffee drinks that you can find in Starrbucks but they do have some that are special to this place. I was never a fan of their drinks so I will skip on that The food and pastries however, that I welcome very much. I’ve tried few pastries and they were ok, the croissant however is not that to a standard of a croissant. It is more like a regular bread shaped likea croissant. The avocado and egg toast was nice, I really love the nice citrus flavor they have in it.

Expensive as expected
One thing I have to point out, be ready to buy more when you visit this place. The drinks are priced similar to other Starbucks store and some is a bit more pricey. The pastries and food on the other hand are quite expensive. Some are good but some are mediocre to the price. But hey, if you are just visiting consider it a treat to yourself.

The Service
This is one thing that I was greatly disappointed. I’ve been to different Starbucks store, maybe not as grand as huge as this one but nothing compares to the service that this store provides. I had a high expectation not only when it comes to quality but most of all for the service and they really did not do good on this. I went several times and never once I got a server that is nice, welcoming and polite. Maybe it was just my bad luck but the service was horrible to say the least and the staff are not very helpful at all. I had never been in a Starbucks with such a bad service as this place. The place was awesome at least. Would be nice if they paired it with a good service.

Is it worth to visit this place?
I would say Yes if you are visiting. This is a nice place to hangout and have drinks and snacks. Even for me who is not a coffee drinker, I find myself going back to this place several times just for the pastries and for the nice cozy ambiance.
