Are you ready for a sinfully delicious indulgent dessert? Chocolate Cobbler, Hot Fudge Cake, Chocolate Pudding Cake.. however you want to call it, it boils down to one thing and that is PURE and ultimate chocolate indulgence! From top to bottom, every single layer is oozing with chocolate. A base chocolate fudge that melts like a lava and a top that is like a cracked gooey brownie overflowing with warm hot fudge. Isn’t it crazy chocolatey? Wait till you try it 🙂

I was in the mood for a warm chocolate dessert, and this was what came to my mind. It cannot get any chocolate and warm as this. Is does look crazy chocolate overload, well because it is. There is no shortgae of chocolate in this dessert. I love the warm pudding cake and the hot fudge covering the top. If there is a sundae cake, this would be it.
A Simple Pudding Cake
The base pudding cake is a simple mixture of floue, cocoa powder, sugar, butter and flavorings. I like adding instant coffee powder to my chocolate desserts but feel free to omit it if that is now your thing. Coffee enhances the chocolate flavor but I assure you it will not be like drinking a coffee. It would not be that strong, very subtle but recognizable.
Hot Fudge Overload
What makes this nteresting is the hot fudge layer on top. We’ve seen a lot of chocolate cake recipes or pudding recipes, but not quite as chocolate overload as this one. I mean look at the hot fudge floating on top? This should be illegal 🙂 The hot fudge is just few simple ingredients, 3 actually. Sugar, cocoa powder and hot water. You can add instant coffee powder for extra depth of flavor which I love to do. The key here is not to stir the mixture once you pour the hot water. It sounds unusual and you may itch to stir it, but don’t 🙂 trust the process. You will see how the top layer will turn into a oozing hot fudge sauce, just look at this photo.
Trial and Error
This is one recipe that I never gave up trying until I got it right. After several tests and attempt, I finally nailed the perfect ratio between the hot fudge topping and the chocolate cake base.
- 1st Try: When I first made this, it came out too overwhelming with hot fudge, it was a like a hot fudge dessert with no chocolate cake.
- 2nd Try: Then the second time I made it, I added more flour, I got the cake that I wanted but it came out too dense and compact and there was not enough hot fudge on top.
- 3rd Try: Then the third time I tried it, I reduced the all-purpose flour and I thought I was almost there but not quite yet. The cake texture was perfect, it was moist and fudgy and the hot fudge was just the right amount. The only problem was that I felt it was too sweet for my taste.
- 4th Try: And so in my fourth try, I reduced the sugar instead added more cocoa powder and it finally came out the way that I want it. The cake was moist and fudgy, there was perfect amount of hot fudge on top and the sweetness was just right. Oh I was so happy, I enjoyed every single bit of it. I know this is a serving for two, but I actually finished it by myself and I do not regret it. It was so good! It was worth all the test. now you can enjoy it too.
Best Way to Serve This … With Ice Cream Please
I strongly suggest that you serve this with either ice cream or fresh fruits because of its intense chocolate overload fudgy flavor and texture, it will be too much to eat it on its own. My personal preference is always to have something to go with it, and what better pair than an ice cream. The ice cream will somehow lessen and balance the chocolate fudge and will make it more enjoyable to eat rather than overwhelming. Afterall, ice cream + hot fudge combo, you cannot go wrong with that, at least not in my world.

Other options are fresh fruits like berries or a generous amount of whippined cream :). It is sinfully delicious so do not even attempt to count the calories in this dessert, just enjoy every bite of it and resume your diet tomorrow 🙂 Let’s get started!
