Tulips Festival in Canada

About the Festival

Formerly called as Tulip of the Valley Festival and now known as Chilliwack Tulip Festival is a flower festival show casing 30 different varieties of tulips in 20 acres of beautiful colorful fields. The festival this years starts second week of April and could last up to first week of May depending on the weather. This festival is considered the lower Mainland’s original tulip festival and Western Canada’s largest.

I’ve been in several Tulips Festival and I always enjoy every one of them. The first one I attended was a Tulip Festival in Skagit in USA. This happened about 1-2 years after I moved here in Canada when I was excitedly exploring new places and attractions in Canada and nearby US cities. Skagit Tulip Festival is a different experience for me since it was my first time to visit a Tulip Festival, I was mesmerized in everything I saw and that got me started to visit Tulip Festival almost every year whenever I can. I had my Skagit Tulip Festival experience in a separate post, check it out HERE.

Tips for a FUN Stress Free Visit

Check the weather, it rains quite often in BC and dressing for the weather makes a huge difference. When you’re not lucky enough and it’s raining the day you are visiting, it’s better to bring a raincoat so that you can still freely walk around and take photos without having to hold the umbrella. Also, wear proper footwear, a boots is highly advisable because it gets muddy specially if it has been raining for few days. Don’t wear white shoes as it could get easily dirty.
Sunscreen: But when it’s a good weather or sunny, use some sunscreen. It’s totally an open field, there’s no shade to hide from the sun
Washroom Alert: There are no proper washroom in the site, but there are plenty of portalet, just so you know before you drink plenty of water.
No public Transportation in the area. You either drive or go with a tour group, if you do make sure to watch the time. You don’t want to be left there stranded. I didn’t even saw any can around, you’ll probably have to pay extra to have a can pick you up there.
Schedule your visit, earlier the better: since it’s an open field, on a hot day bra better to get there earlier to enjoy the trip. Also, there will be lesser people and you can take better photo
Traveling alone? make sure to bring a selfie stick. It’s best to have someone with you so that you can take nice photos, but if you are traveling alone then make sure to have a selfie stick ready to get you own photo. Or you can ask someone to take your photo, but you’ll be lucky if you can get someone to take your photo on every spot that you like. You can’t go there and leave without a photo of you, not one but MANY!
Best off all, go when the Tulips are in full bloom. This could depend on the weather, but you can call the farm if you want to sure. I usually go 3rd week of April so most of the Tulips are not yet harvested. Last week of the Festival there will be fewer Tulips to see. Check their website for updates.

Fraser Valley Tulip Festival

I always have fun visiting Tulip Festival and this one is not an exception. The array of beautiful colors of Tulips are enough to get me mesmerized, add to that the beautiful mountain as a backdrop.
