It was the first day of the first Fall long weekend. It was a nice, sunny and a bit cold day. It was a perfect day to go hiking. Today I am taking you with me to one of the most visited easy hiking place in North Vancouver, BC. We’re going to walk together and explore Lynn Canyon Park.
About Lynn Canyon Park
Lynn Canyon Park officially opened to the public in 1912 and has been a popular destination among tourists and local residents of Lynn Valley ever since. The main attraction, the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge towers 50 meters (160ft) over the canyon and is part of the Baden Powell Trail. In addition to the bridge, the park features several hiking trails to enjoy and some amenities including the Lynn Canyon Cafe and Ecology Centre.

This was one of the place I visited when I first got to Canada. I’ve been coming back again and again in this place sometimes with friends or just by myself.

Don’t we just love FREE?
Unlike Capillano Suspension Bridge (also located in North Vancouver”) access to Lynn Canyon Park and everything it has to offer is FREE 🙂 Don’t we just love it when there is no entrance fee? This is what made it more appealing to locals and tourists. Although this is a smaller shorter suspension bridge, it was good enough for something free. Bonus plus, they have more than just the suspension bridge to explore.

Capilano Suspension Bridge
If you want a longer suspension bridge to cross to and you have money to spend, visit the Capilano Suspension bridge for an entrance fee of 71.95 CAD for adult. Always check their website for updated rates and news.

Accessible with or without car
Another thing I like about Lyn Canyon park is that it is very accessible to the public whether you drive a car or prefer to take the public transit. I always access it from a bus in Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. This are falls in the zone 3 and cost 6.35CAD for the fare valid for 1 1/2 hours transfer. Check the Translink site for the latest fare rates.

Kid friendly hiking trails
The place also have several easy hiking trails, that for me is a bonus! You can spend a day in this place and walk multiple easy trails in one visit. The hiking trails are on the easy side that are both doable for adults and kids. When I was there, there were quite a lot of family with kids and dogs on the trails. This is a great free family activity during weekend or even weekday. Weekend and holiday tend to more busy so just take a note of that. If you are not used to hiking alone, I suggest go there during weekend or holiday so there is more people around.

Wooden path and improved stairs and walking paths
They’ve certainly improved this place a lot more than the last time I went here. They’ve added a lot of wooden pathways and they’ve repaired the wooden stairs too. Be prepared to climb up and down the stairs if you choose to do the hike here. It was still an easy hike compared to the others like Grouse Mountain.
Suspension Bridge, the highlight of the park
The main attraction of this place is the free access to the Suspension Bridge. It was a short one that you can cross, take a nice selfie (make sure to hold tight on your camera) and admire the beautiful falls underneath. The bridge gets really crowded so come early if you want to get a better photo of yourself on the bridge.

While crossing the bridge, you will have a view of the raging river and 2 breathtaking waterfalls. The bridge sits about 50-meters above the creek.

Twin falls Bridge
Twin Falls is a short, popular hike in North Vancouver that crosses the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge and follows Lynn Creek down river before crossing a wooden bridge and looping back on the opposite side of the canyon. While the route is rated as easy compared to many hikes, there is still a significant change in elevation and it is recommended to bring water and be in decent physical shape.

Prepare to climb and walk on more stairs
It is about 15 minutes walk with some going up and down the stairs. This area is not as crowded as the suspension bridge and a great stop to explore. Walk onto the short bridge and enjoy the view of the falls below. After you have enjoyed the area, make your way back to the wooden bridge above Twin Falls and cross to the other side and continue enjoying the hike.

Boden Powell Trail
The Boden Powell Trail is a nice one to do too. There’s a lot of wooden platform to walk on and a chance to be up close and personal with the water is you want to dip in and feel the cold running water. This trail have few stairs to climb on, a bit steep and intimidating at first but it’s not that bad. Just do it at your own pace.

Cliff jumping at the 30 Foot Pool
Last but not the least, the 30 foot pool. The 30 Foot Pool is on route to the Pipe Bridge which crosses the canyon and leads to the top of Lynn Valley Road. If the Pipe Bridge is where you are headed, be prepared for a long climb up a wooden stairwell to the top of the canyon. There is a lookout point on the stairwell with a great view of the 30 Foot Pool and surrounding area. Watch the short video to see a guy cliff jumping to the 30 foot pool.

This area is where jump from the cliff to the water. As impressive it is to watch people doing this, this area had quite a lot of accidents. Although people are discouraged to do cliff jumping, some people who lack fear still do it. Have a look at the video, I was able to capture a guy doing a flip jump in the pool.
It wasn’t that high, but still risky as you can hit your body if you land in the wrong position. You can see a lot of people standing by and waiting for the people to jump of the cliff.

if you continue with the hiking, climbing the steep stairs and keep on following the trail, you will end up in the “End of the Line General Store” in the roadside.
Nestled in the trees of Upper Lynn Valley, the End Of The Line General Store has been tying our neighbourhood together and welcoming guests to our corner of the North Shore for over 100 years. In 1910, the corner our store stands on truly was the End Of The Line; the last stop on the Lynn Valley Trolley Line, connecting a rugged North Vancouver at the turn of the century.

During Summer and even when I was there, quite a lot of people. They sell hot and cold drinks, pastry, cookies, ice cream, sandwiches, apparels, souvenirs and a lot more. Step inside and have a peak when you end up there.
Oh, before I forget, I had to mention that they have a cafe in the area. Nothing fancy but enough to get some light snack and some cold or hot drinks. A nice sweet treat and a cold drink won’t hurt after doing the hike. There’s also a washroom at the side of the cafe.

It was a nice day for another unplanned activity. I love this place and I will keep on coming back here. I am really happy that I was able to this place with you.
Until my next adventure. Byeee!
