[VIDEO] Single Serving Apple Crisp

Hello There! I am back with another easy single serving Fall inspired recipes. I hope you’re not yet tired seeing Fall desserts because I have more coming your way.

Today we’re making a simple and delicious Apple Crisp for One. Yes, you can make a single serving just for you because you deserve it.

I do enjoy a small amount of Fall desserts for time to time. If you’ve noticed, most of my Fall inspired recipes lately are small batch if not single serving. I find that a small amount enough to satisfy my sweet tooth craving is all I need to enjoy the season of Fall. Not that I have anything against big batch recipes, I do love looking at them but I wasn’t blessed with the capacity to consume so much food. I wouldn’t mind making a big batch though for sharing in a group gathering.

But for today, it’s just us. You and me! We’re going to treat ourself with this simple Apple Crisp.

Apple Crisp

Making Apple Crisp is not difficult. This recipe requires cooking the apple and baking the apple crisp. There are no bake Apple Crisp recipes that uses microwave, maybe I’ll try that next time.

My preference to make any crisp recipe is to caramelized the fruit and bake the crisp. After all, it’s not a crisp if the topping is not crispy crunchy. I prefer the toppings to have that crunch for better texture. This method I am doing it pretty much the same for most bake fruit crisp. Let’s have a look.

Apple Crisp For One

The first thing I like to do is to cook the caramelize apple. Basically, we cook the diced apples in sugar until the sugar melts and the apple is soft. I like to not too mushy so as soon as it starts to bubble, I’ll set about 1-2 minutes then I’ll take it out of the pan. You can make a large batch of the caramelize apple and refrigerate it. You can use it for pancake, oatmeal and yogurt toppings or even tart or pie filling.  I have a separate video for making Apple Filling, have a look here.

Once we’re done with the apple, we can make the crisp topping. You can interchange the order and make this first, it either way is ok. I often like to multitask and make this crisp topping while the apple is cooking.

To make the toppings, simply mix all the topping ingredients. I use my fingers to crumble the mixture so it forms a clumps of crisp. If you want a loose crisp, then just mix it and do not clump it.

Now that we have the 2 major components, let Bake. Arrange the cooked apple in a dish. I used 5-inch cast iron pan but if you have one of those 4-inch ramekins, that would work too. I’ve used that one before in a lot of my crisp and crumble recipes.

Since the apple is already pre-cooked, our aim in baking this is just to make the topping crunchy and crisp. This won’t take long, say about 15 minutes in 350F. You can push a bit further if you want extra brown and crunchy crisp topping.

Once that’s done, all that left is to Serve and add a scoop (or two) of vanilla ice cream and off you go to enjoy it.
