Stop 1 – Pals: A Quaint Medieval Style Village
The first stop of our Girona & Costa Brava trip is a small village called Pals. Pals is a captivating medieval village nestled in the Baix Empordà region of Girona, Spain. It is about 1 1/2 hour drive from Barcelona, Spain. We left at 8:30 am and we got there by 10:00am.

Why Visit Pals?
Pals boasts a rich history and has been meticulously restored. Once a neglected medieval village, it has been lovingly revitalized. The Gothic Quarter is a highlight, with its cobbled streets, arched doorways, stone balconies, and charming windows. As you wander through, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

If you are fond of small medieval style villages, you’ll love Pals. It is exactly how described it, a small medieval village, quiet and laid back. We only stopped here for 20 minutes, which is rather quick. I really hoped that we had more time to explore the area and walk the medieval villages. Although Pals is a small village, walking the cobble stones streets while admiring old fashioned brick style houses are such a nice thing to see. It was literally like being transported back in time, everything is old style but charming in every way. It was quiet when we visited Pals as Oct is almost the off peak season, the slightly chilly weather signals the slow transition to Fall.

Highlight of Pals
20 minutes is such a short time to pick a highlight of Pals, I’m pretty sure that there’s more to Pals than what I saw in 20 minutes. So let me just say that whatever I saw in 20 minutes is the entire highlight of my visit to Pals. What you see in the photos and the video is exactly what I experienced. It’s a very short and nice stop over. If you are renting a car, then you can spend more time to explore Pals.
Pals offers a delightful blend of medieval architecture, stunning views, and a relaxed vibe. Whether you’re exploring stone houses, wandering the cobbled streets, or enjoying the rice fields, this gem on the Costa Brava is sure to captivate you!

Stop 2 – Para Fugel
This is the stop that I do not have much to share. Unfortunately, it rained like crazy the moment that we got there. I am not talking about light rain here, but a rain that really needs in umbrella. The stop over there was supposed to be 2 hours, we ended up staying in the restaurant for lunch to kill the time while waiting for the rain to stop. Unfortunately, the rain did not stop until we had to leave, so we weren’t able to explore the place. We do have a taste, just for few minutes when we had a stopover in a lookout point to have an appreciation of the coastal view even if only for few minutes. I can just imagine how beautiful and busy this place during Summer season.
Why Visit Para Fugel?
If you go here on a nice weather (say dying Sumner), this place is a busy place for people who would like to swim. If that is your thing, then make sure to gather your swimming gear and head to Para Fuegel. If swimming is not your thing but love coastal view or just walking the sandy beach, then you can also consider Para Fuegel to do that. In my personal opinion, stop over to Para Fuegel is bit really worth it to be part of a tour activity. There’s really nothing much to see in the area where we were dropped off, but then again it would be a different case if you are driving on your own. You can explore the place more, and maybe find a good reason why Para Fuegel is worth stopping for.

Stop 3 – Girona – The Game of Thrones Shooting Locations
Now let’s move on the the final destination, Girona. Girona is 55 minutes away from Para Fugel.
Why Visit Para Girona?
If you are a HUGE fans of Game of Thrones (GOT) tv series, then you will have an even more appreciation of Girona. But rest assured that even if you don’t know what GOT is you don’t care about it, you might still enjoy Girona, I did and I haven’t even seen any of GOT episodes. Girona is similar to Pals, but bigger and probably busier. It had more establishments and more touristy. Girona also have the old style medieval structures, in fact a lot of the establishments in the Center have this kind of style. The residential area are not as medieval in style, but not traditionally modern as well. Unlike in Pals where the residential area itself have the medieval stone style design.
Ok, Game of Thrones fans, here’s few locations where the GOT was shot. I was kind of surprised how a lot of tourist actually recognized it. I’m pretty sure the appreciation will be different if you’ve seen the show. But anyway, here they are. How many of thaw do you recognize?
It has been a whole day tour, from Barcelona to Pals to Para Fugel to Girona and back to Barcelona. Although it rained in part of our tour, I still consider this trip a nice activity to explore what is outside Barcelona.

Tips in Visiting
- Take your time. I went of a small group tour which is very much time restricted. If you can, rent a car and go a tour on your own. You will have more time to explore the place and even have a sit-down meal and just relax. Girona and Costa Brava is such a beautiful place to visit and explore for a day trip.
