Toasted Spiced Chickpeas

Never under-estimate the power of simplicity. Sometimes, simple is better. That’s exactly how I see this Toasted Spiced Chickpeas.  A can of chickpeas and few spices, toss and toast, that’s it! It can never get any simpler than this, but it taste great.

Spicy Toasted Chickpeas

I first had chickpeas as Hummus, and I immediately knew that I am going to have a healthy and lovely relationship with chickpeas. I was correct, few months after, I made my own Spicy Moroccan Hummus and my very own Bell Pepper Hummus, Jalapeno and Cilantro Hummus and now, this Toasted Spiced Chickpeas. I know this is just the beginning, I cannot wait to explore more the world of chickpeas. This Toasted Spiced Chickpeas are good for snacking and a perfect mix in to salad. Simple, healthy and easy. That’s how I like it. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Can (15 oz) chickpeas – rinsed and  drained
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp granulated white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp curry powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric

Spicy Toasted Chickpeas Recipe

Instructions:

Toast option:

  1. Rinse and drain chickpeas then dry it with paper towel.
  2. Remove the skin (optional).
  3. Mix all the spices in a bowl then sprinkle it over the chickpeas. Toss until chickpeas are fully coated.
  4. Heat pan and toast the spiced chickpeas for 20- 25 minutes. Mix every few minutes for even toasting.
  5. Remove from the pan and let cool.

Roast and Bake option:

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. Rinse and drain chickpeas then dry it with paper towel.
  3. Remove the skin (optional).
  4. Transfer in a bowl and add all the spices and olive oil. Toss until chickpeas are fully coated.
  5. Spread chickpeas onto cookie sheet.
  6. Bake chickpeas for 10 minutes turning throughout and then bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool.
