Never under-estimate the power of simplicity. Sometimes, simple is better. That’s exactly how I see this Toasted Spiced Chickpeas. A can of chickpeas and few spices, toss and toast, that’s it! It can never get any simpler than this, but it taste great.
I first had chickpeas as Hummus, and I immediately knew that I am going to have a healthy and lovely relationship with chickpeas. I was correct, few months after, I made my own Spicy Moroccan Hummus and my very own Bell Pepper Hummus, Jalapeno and Cilantro Hummus and now, this Toasted Spiced Chickpeas. I know this is just the beginning, I cannot wait to explore more the world of chickpeas. This Toasted Spiced Chickpeas are good for snacking and a perfect mix in to salad. Simple, healthy and easy. That’s how I like it. Let’s get started!
Ingredients:
- 1 Can (15 oz) chickpeas – rinsed and drained
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp granulated white sugar
- 1/4 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp curry powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
Instructions:
Toast option:
- Rinse and drain chickpeas then dry it with paper towel.
- Remove the skin (optional).
- Mix all the spices in a bowl then sprinkle it over the chickpeas. Toss until chickpeas are fully coated.
- Heat pan and toast the spiced chickpeas for 20- 25 minutes. Mix every few minutes for even toasting.
- Remove from the pan and let cool.
Roast and Bake option:
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- Rinse and drain chickpeas then dry it with paper towel.
- Remove the skin (optional).
- Transfer in a bowl and add all the spices and olive oil. Toss until chickpeas are fully coated.
- Spread chickpeas onto cookie sheet.
- Bake chickpeas for 10 minutes turning throughout and then bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let cool.
