Welcome to Banff National Park!
Hey guys! It’s winter once again (at least where I am) and this is a perfect time for me to share with you my winter adventures. Join me as I show you around my amazing experience exploring Sulphur Mountain at Banff National Park in Alberta. Let’s get started!
I’ve never visited any provinces in Canada much often then I visited Calgary, Alberta. I am not surprised at all because Calgary has so much to offer in terms of places to explore and visit. Calgary almost feels like a second or third home to me because of my friends who always made me feel welcomed in their home. I cannot remember how many times I went there, and I stopped counting because I know I will keep on coming back.
I’ve seen Calgary on summer and winter times, and both season gave me a different appreciation of the beauty of the place. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Banff and do the gondola ride to Sulphur Mountain during the height of winter, thanks to my friends. I said fortunate because although quite a lot of people doesn’t like winter cold and snow, I’m quite the opposite. I love the powder white snow and the way that it glitters when struck by sunlight. I like the winter wonderland feeling of being surrounded by snow, and I love the feel of the cold breeze in my face. I just love it, maybe because I don’t get to live on it everyday so the appreciation is different.
I cannot get over how beautiful the view of mountains when covered in snow. We spent half day exploring the place, walking around, chatting, and eating. Although quite far from Calgary (where we started our trip), the trip was all worth it and the whole experience was truly exceptional. The eight minute ride in a fully enclosed gondola cabin going up to Sulphur Mountain was just the beginning of our adventure and one of the highlight of our trip. The view was magnificent, and the experience was totally memorable. But however exciting it was, nothing beats the experience of walking along the ridge top boardwalk, the view at every step and every level was an experience of a lifetime, it was truly jaw dropping.
It has been few years now since I first and last visited Banff, but until now the memories are still fresh in my mind. I can still vividly remember how numb my face was while walking up the board walk and how comforting it was when I finally saw the entrance to the Bistro, a place that kept us warm and cozy.
Every part of my body from head to toe were freezing cold, but hey, it’s a once in a lifetime experience. How often do I get to freeze myself like that anyway. So when you visit this place during winter, make sure to layer properly and keep yourself protected from the cold. That’s the best way to enjoy the place, warm and bundled up.
Hungry? No worries! “Sky Bistro” is there to keep your tummy warm and happy. This is a perfect place to start or end your trip. Nothing beats a hot coffee or a cup of hot soup on cold winter days, besides, you deserve a treat for being brave enough to face the cold and experience winter on top of Sulpur Mountain. Go and keep yourself warm and prepare for your next destination, Lake Louise! Check out my Winter at Lake Louise post for a sneak peek of another winter wonderland experience that you will never forget.
