It’s been rainy these past few days. I miss the warm Summer weather, but winter is here to stay at least for now. To make snowy and rainy days manageable, I like making hot drinks. Although I am not much of a coffee drinker, but from time to time, I do not mind making a mild coffee drink like this “Cardamom White Hot Chocolate Creamy Coffee“. This white hot chocolate is creamy but still with a nice touch of coffee flavor.
About This Recipe
- Ease in Making the Recipe: Hot chocolate for me is always an easy and fun way to make at home. You can make this in 10 – 15 minutes, even less. White chocolate melts faster than dark or semi sweet which makes the preparation even faster. Simply bring the milk to a simmer (not boiling) then add the chopped white chocolate cardamom powder and instant coffee powder. Depending on how sweet the chocolate you are using, you may or may not need to add a sweetener. Add the sugar at the end so you have the chance to taste it first and adjust as needed.
- Ingredients: There are only few ingredients here, so use a good quality chocolate for a better taste. After all, if you are going to indulge something, make it worth it. You can add as much or less cardamom and coffee powder. The milk foam on top is optional, but seriously if you have the ingredient who skip it? The milk foam makes a huge of difference, plus it does add a nice look to it. You cannot resist this drink especially when the whether is cold. Rain, snow .. this is the drink.
- Texture, Taste & Flavor: Creamy, milky and I love the flavor the cardamom gave to this drink. It made a simple milk drink cozy and delicious. A small amount goes a long way.
- Make-Ahead: Yes you can. Store the drink in the refrigerator and reheat when ready to drink. Make sure to not overheat the drink as this could make the drink oily. Over heating the milk with white chocolate could make the fat float. Simmer it but do not bring it to a boil. This recipe is so easy to make. I highly recommend to make it when you need it. You can have chopped white chocolate ready so all you need to do is simmer the milk and add the white chocolate and cardamom powder
Success Tips in Making Cardamom White Hot Chocolate Creamy Coffee
- Use good quality white chocolate. Do NOT use chocolate chips as it takes longer to melt them. Heating the milk for too long could affect the drink.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cup full Fat Milk (Non Dairy milk works too)
- 1/3 cup Half & Half (half cream, half milk)
- 40g chopped White Chocolate
- 3/4 teaspoon Coffee Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
- 1 teaspoon Sugar – optional
Instructions:
- Pour the milk in a pan and bring to a simmer in low heat. Do NOT bring to a boil as this could scald the milk. Once you can see steam coming out, add the chopped white chocolate and coffee powder. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted. Taste to check if you need to add sweetener. Some white chocolate are sweet enough that you do not need any sweetener. Mine was not as sweet so I added 1 teaspoon sugar.
- Make the milk/cream foam by whipping the half and half mixture. You can use a frother, a hand whisk, electric mixer with whisk attachment or mini blender. Whisk for 30 seconds of until slightly thick and foamy but not too thick.
- Pour in a drinking glass and topped with milk/cream foam, dash of cardamom powder or shave white chocolate.
