Transylvanian Traditions Bakery

IMG_0859

Every time we go to Cazba we cannot helped but stopped by at Transylvanian bakery to buy Chimney Cake .Chimney Cake is made from sweet, yeast dough (raised dough), of which a strip is spun and then wrapped around a truncated cone–shaped baking spit, and rolled in granulated sugar. It is baked above charcoal cinders or electrical elements while lubricated with melted butter, until its surface gets a golden-brown colour. During the baking process the sugar stuck on Chimney Cake becomes caramel and forms shiny, crispy crust on the cake. The surface of cake can then be provided with additional toppings such as ground walnut or cinnamon powder.

Although it is cake by name, I consider this as more of bread than a cake.It doesn’t look like a cake and surely doesn’t taste like one. Regardless of what it is called, I love it! This bread is so addicting, once you start eating, it is difficult to stop. The physical appearance looks different from any other bread I had. It’s shape like a hollow cone, has a thin and soft texture and the outer is coated with sugar , cinnamon and nuts. This is a must have when you visit this bakery.Well, this is the only thing I buy when I visit this bakery.

Juan de Fuca Coffee Shop

IMG_0883

I am not a coffee person, but I do love visiting coffee shops for their pastries and other sweet treats. Almost in every coffee shops I visit, I have 1 or 2 favourite pastries that I go back to from time to time. I visit  Juan de Fuca Coffee Shop for their HazelNut Delight. This pastry is like a puff pastry in texture. It has chocolate filling inside, I was told that it is Nutella. The outer has flaked Almonds and is coated with a sugary syrup, like honey but not quite. Just like other pastries, this is best eaten fresh while it is still warm and crunchy.
