Welcome to Sea to Sky Gondola!♥
If you have one day to spare in your vacation plan, add the Sea to Sky in your itinerary, it’s really worth it a day trip. If you have more than, you can even go to afterwards, that will be 2 birds in one stone.
The Sea to Sky is located in Squamish, British Columbia, about 1 1/2 hour away from Vancouver. If you have your own car, you can drive going there. No need to worry if you do not have a car, they have a shuttle service that pick-up passenger in several stops in downtown Vancouver and there are also tour buses that you go there. Really, transportation is not a problem if you want to visit this place. For more information on how to get there, click here.
Gondola Ride
Start your adventure by a 10 minutes gondola ride to the top of the mountain. The gondola has a maximum capacity of 8, although most of the time there are less than 8 people inside which made it more comfortable.
The climb up and down will give you a breathtaking view of Howe Sound, Shannon Falls and the famous Squamish Chief climbing area. So, sit back and relax the view while you wait for ascend to the top for a more majestic view and adventure of your life.
Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge
Aside from the gondola ride, the highlight of your visit is the suspension bridge. This is a MUST do for everyone so that you get the maximize the experience of being up there. If you have a fear of heights, maybe this is a great way (or maybe not) to over come it. The bridge is approximately 100m long, and offers a 360 degrees view of the area.
You will start crossing the bridge from the summit lodge viewing deck near the restaurant. At the end of the bridge is spirit viewing platform. Crossing the bridge itself is an experience of a lifetime, how often do you get a chance to cross a suspension bridge this long and this high?
The Summit Lodge Viewing Deck
This is the first of the three viewing deck that you will encounter. It is located close to the gondola unloading area, restaurant and the start of the suspension bridge. This viewing deck will give you a perfect view of the How Sound. There is also a sitting patio outside the restaurant, a perfect place to have a meal of a snack while enjoying the view.
The Spirit Viewing Platform
This is the second viewing platform located at the end of the suspension bridge, 100m away from the Summit Lodge via the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge. This viewing deck has been used as a beautiful wedding ceremony location. I was lucky enough to witness a wedding when I was there for a visit, which adds to a memorable trip experience.
There is a short trail that you can walk around in this area, this area also offers amazing view like you have never seen before. Do not get carried away and spend too much time in this area though, specially if you have limited time. You still have the 3rd viewing platform to visit, which would require few minutes of walk. You would not want to miss it, it is my personal favorite place.
The Chief Overlook Platform
Now we go to my favorite spot. Last but not the least, is the third and last viewing platform. This is my favorite among all the three platform and a MUST do as well. This is located roughly around 15-20 minutes from the summit lodge (one way), depending on how fast or slow you walk. The short hike is pleasant and easy one, and you will be rewarded with a jaw dropping view at the end of the short walk.
Picnic Area
They also some a picnic ground and kids play area. It is located at the foot of the gondola unloading station. There is a short stairs that descent to this area. This area is also the starting point going to the chief overlook platform.
So what did I tell you? Isn’t the view amazing? I hope I was able to convince you that this is really a MUST place to add in your itinerary. Till my next adventure! This is SweetnNSpicy your travel buddy!
