Garden Talk (2023): Gladiolus & Daisy, Perfect Combination

It’s has been awhile since we had a garden talk. The flowers and veggies are taking time to bloom, must be the effect of fluctuating weather. The post I shared with this was my lovely Peonies. They’re gone too fast, but now I have a new bloom that came out just last week.

Gladioulus

This is the second year of my Gladiolus. Similar to my other bulbs and flowers that I started from seed, first year was not a productive as the succeeding years. More blooms, bigger flowers and they seem to multiply more and more.

I probably got 2 or 3 flowers last year from my Gladiolus. This year, they seem to be coming out a lot more than I expected. I did not even realize I planted that much. My only disappointment is that I was hoping for an assortment of colors because what I bought was an assorted package of Gladiolus bulbs. Most of mine as far as what I can see for now are yellow, which are lovely. I think I also had white and pink last year so there maybe some hope of seeing new colors in the coming days.

Gladiolus flowers are long and tall. The flowers itself are not long, but they grow almost like a long stem with alternating flowers. The base stem is quite thick and somewhat heavy. The plant when the flowers are in full bloom tend to lean forward because of the heavy flowers. The roots and bulb cannot handle the weight once it is full bloom.

They’re great as fry flowers for long vase like what I have here. I paired it with the lovely Shasta Daisy which cannot stop from growing more and more every year. The flowers itself are also bigger this year and the steams are quite heavy and thick. The combination of these two are perfect. The vibrant yellow color of Gladiolus pairs nicely with the bright white color of Daisy and the vibrant yellow center.

I love, love, love how this arrangement came out. Fresh cut flowers from my garden. Looking at this everyday day makes my gardening worth it.

That’s what I have for to share now, until the next bloom. Thank You for reading!
