Try making this at home, you’ll love it.

Since it is Summer, I am making a seasonal post just for the Summer season. The post will mostly be about Summer drinks and frozen treats to keep us cool and comfy during the Summer season. If it is not Summer where you are right now, do not worry because you can always go back and search for these recipes whenever Summer arrives in your area or if you just want to get chilled. Some of the drinks that I am sharing here can be made any day of the year, I say bring the ice cream out on Winter 🙂

Earl Grey Milk Bubble Tea

A simple milk tea drink that you can serve hot or cold. Whichever you choose, it’s a win win. You only need few ingredients to make this milk drink. Milk because this is a milk drink. You can use any dairy or non-dairy milk. A tea bag, Earl Grey is my favorite tea for making milk tea. I love the subtle flavor of this tea and when mix with milk, they just work perfectly together. Sweetener for me is a must. I used brown sugar but any sweetener will work just fine. I like the deep dark color of brown sugar syrup plus the light caramel flavor from the molasses. Color, flavor and the physical beauty it adds to the milk drink. I always love the dark caramel color mixing with milk.

Earl Grey Milk Tea

you can use granulated white sugar when making the syrup if you want a plain syrup. Also using white sugar syrup will not discolour the drink. For this drink, I wasn’t concern about retaining the color of the milk, in fact I really want it to have a brownish color once the milk and brown sugar mix together. I just love looking at it, there’s something satisfying about watching a Milk being poured and mixing with the syrup.

How To Make Simple Sugar Syrup

Simple syrup is simply dissolved and lightly reduced sugar + water. The basic ratio is 1:1, meaning 1 part sugar to 1 part water (i.e 1 cup sugar: 1 cup water), it is basically an equal portion of sugar and water.

However, if you like it thick and sweeter, you can do a 1:2 ratio (i.e 1/2 cup water : 1 cup sugar). The yield will be less, but it is thicker and sweeter which use you use less of it.

You can make sugar syrup using granulated white sugar for a clear syrup OR light or dark brown sugar for a darker syrup. The darker syrup are great for coffee or dark tea based drinks as this will not affect the color of the drink that much.

The clear syrup are best for drinks that you want to retain the original color without making it brownish in color. The clear white syrup tends to be sweeter than the brown sugar, but brown sugar have that light caramel flavor from the molasses in the brown sugar. In the end, it all boils down to preference.

3 Ingredients Brown Sugar Earl Grey Milk Tea

This Milk Drink uses only 3 ingredients, Beets, sugar and milk and is very easy to make. You can flavor it or leave it plain, the choice is yours.

  • Earl Grey Tea – Tea bags or loose leaf
  • Milk -you can use any type of milk you prefer. I used full fat milk, but other type of non-dairy milk will work too.
  • Sweetener – I recommend using liquid sweetener when making cold drinks. A simple brown sugar syrup is great for bubble tea drinks, but you can also use regular white sugar syrup or any of those store-bought flavored syrup.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Earl Grey Tea Bag or loose Earl Grey Tea
  • Ice Cubes
  • For the Brown Sugar Syrup (can substituted with any preferred sweetener)
    • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
    • 1/2 cup Water

The Brown Sugar Syrup is is more than what you need. I only used 1/4 cup. Save the remaining for next time you make drinks requiring brown sugar syrup. You can also cut the measurement in half to make a smaller batch.

Instructions:

  1. Pour milk in a pan. Simmer in medium heat. When steam starts to come out and bubbles starts to appear, put the Earl Grey tea bag to steep.
  2. Leave the teabag for at least 5 minutes. I even leave mine overnight when I am making this for the following day.
  3. Pour in a cup and let cool completely. If not yet drinking, leave in the refrigerator once it cools down.
  4. Make the Brown Sugar Syrup: In a pan, pour water. Add the brown sugar and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved. Have the heat in low when you do this. Pour in a container with a lid and cover. Let cool completely before using for cold drink.
  5. Make foamed milk (optional): Using a frother, foam up 1/4 cup of milk just until lightly foamed.
  6. Serve: Add ice cubes in a glass. Pour sugar syrup in the amount you prefer. Pour the Earl Grey Milk Tea followed by the foamed milk.
