There’s something about fall that wraps you in warmth even as the air turns crisp. And if you’re craving crunchy leaves, fresh apples, and a little farmyard fun, Taves Family Farms in Abbotsford, BC is the place to be. Nestled in the Fraser Valley, this family-run farm transforms into a harvest wonderland every autumn — and yes, it’s every bit as magical as it sounds.Whether you’re chasing pumpkins, sipping cider, or just soaking in the golden light, here’s how our day unfolded — one cozy moment at a time

Taves Family Farms — lovingly known as the Applebarn — has been a fall tradition for over 30 years. It’s a place where apples grow sweet, pumpkins sit pretty, and families gather to celebrate the season. From the petting barn to the cider press, everything feels handcrafted with care. It’s not just a farm — it’s a feeling.

Getting to Taves is a breeze. Located just off Highway 1 in Abbotsford, the farm is well-marked with signs and easy to find via GPS. There are plenty of parking but it is not free if you are visiting on a weekend or on a holiday, you have to pay for it when you buy the entrance ticket. Parking ticket for the day cost 7.00 CAD. Staff help direct traffic, and there’s even a drop-off zone if you’re wrangling little ones or hauling pumpkins.

Admission varies depending on the season and activities, but fall pricing typically includes access to the Applebarn, petting zoo, corn maze, and pumpkin patch. You can buy tickets online or at the gate — though online booking is recommended for weekends. Pro tip: check their website for combo passes or weekday discounts.

There are individual tickets and group tickets that you can choose from. I got the Weekend/Holiday Individual Super FUN Pass, 35.70CAD. As for the parking ticket, you only have to buy 1 ticket per car.

The moment you step inside the farm, you will be greeted with the nice view of fruits trees, apple & pears that are literally within your reach. More than the pumpkins, these apple and pears are one of the main attraction in the farms.

There’s a lot of things you can do inside, enough for a half or whole day activity. Pumpkin patch, magical garden, fruit picking are the most popular activities. They also have kids zone with lots of fun things to do, a hay ride around the farm and of course, food places to eat and drink.

The magical garden is the highlight of this farm in terms of best place to take photos. It is quite small dough as compared to Maan Farms. The Magical Garden is enclosed inside small area with separate entrance and exit doors.

The farm area is not as big, it is very easy to go around and navigate. They have the apples and pear picking all over the place. Some are close to the pumpkin patch area and some are close to the magical garden. There were also some few leftover zinnias along the path going to the pumpkin patch.

This is inside the Magical Garden which is the central attraction of the farm. I love how they have the path ways with lined pumpkins.

If you purchased the ticket with the hay ride, go take it! Hop aboard the tractor-pulled wagon and let it take you through rows of apple trees, pumpkin patches, and cornfields. It’s bumpy, breezy, and totally worth it. The views are pure postcard material. That hay ride is only about 10 minutes. It goes around the pumpkin patch and the apple picking area.

The petting barn is a hit with kids and grown-ups alike. Goats, bunnies, and even a few alpacas are ready for a cuddle or a curious stare. Bring snacks — they’ll love you for it.

Taves is known for its juicy Ambrosia and Honeycrisp apples. Grab a basket, wander the orchard, and pick your own. It’s surprisingly therapeutic — and the crunch is unbeatable.

You have to pay additional if you are doing the U-Pick Apple, make sure to check the ticket that you are buying ti have this included. One thing I noticed though is that the U-pick bag they provide is quite small and can only hold few pieces of Apples. Although not allowed, I saw a LOT of people picking and eating apple as they go around the farm. Some even picked Apples to take with them.

The Pumpkin Patch is supposed to be one of the highlight of the Fall at the Farm but it fell short for me. There were not much to see in terms of decoration, just pumpkins scattered everywhere.

Also, the area was not as big as the other pumpkin patch I had visited. It was still worth the visit but certainly not my favourite part of the farm.

Once you are done going around and feeling hungry, they have food concessions and country store for some goodies to take home.

Their fresh-pressed apple cider is the real deal — tangy, sweet, and served warm or cold. Don’t skip the cider slushies either. One sip and you’ll understand why people come back every year. If you cannot get enough of it, they sell Apple ciders in the store to, small & big bottles — your choice.

Come hungry — the food at Taves is part of the experience. Think warm apple cider donuts, buttery kettle corn, and caramel apples that stick to your fingers in the best way. The Applebarn Café serves up hearty comfort food like chili, hotdogs, mac and cheese, and pulled pork sandwiches. And if you’re lucky, you’ll catch the scent of roasted corn drifting through the air. It’s fall indulgence at its finest.

I ordered the Apple Pie Sundae cost 12.00CAD. This is basically a vanilla soft serve ice cream with apple pie filling, crunchy crumble and dried apple chip. It was good, but way too sweet for me.

From homemade jams to kettle corn and apple butter, the market is a treasure trove of fall flavors. I may or may not have left with three jars of preserves and a bag of caramel popcorn.

It’s not fall without a little maze madness. The corn maze is fun, slightly confusing, and a great way to burn off those cider calories. Bonus points if you don’t cheat with Google Maps.

As the sun dips low, the farm glows in amber light. It’s the perfect time for slow strolls, deep breaths, and a few last photos. Everything looks better in golden hour.

Bundled in scarves and boots, we left with rosy cheeks, full hearts, and a trunk full of apples. Taves Farm isn’t just a place — it’s a seasonal ritual. One we’ll happily repeat next year.
