[VIDEO] Whisked Away: Small Batch Matcha Tiramisu for Two (No Eggs, No Fuss!)

Sometimes, dessert should feel like a little getaway—a moment of indulgence that doesn’t require a full-blown baking expedition. Enter: Small Batch Matcha Tiramisu for Two. It’s creamy, dreamy, and just the right amount of fancy without being fussy. This version skips the eggs, uses store-bought ladyfingers, and leans into the earthy elegance of matcha. Whether it’s date night, a cozy evening with a friend, or a solo treat with leftovers for tomorrow—you’re in for a velvety ride.

Let’s join the matcha craze going on, ok. I had been seeing a lot of post about matcha, from the famous latte variations, to cookies, cakes, bars and whatever you can think of where you can add matcha. While we are at it, why not make a Tiramisu matcha variation? Imagine a layers of lady fingers soaked in matcha and layered with creamy whipped mascarpone cheese. Oh, so perfect for the holiday season or for any day of the year.

Matcha Magic: What Makes It So Special

Matcha isn’t just green tea—it’s a whole vibe. With its rich umami flavor and gentle caffeine kick, matcha brings a sophisticated twist to traditional tiramisu. Instead of espresso, we dip our ladyfingers in a warm matcha bath, giving the dessert a subtle bitterness that balances beautifully with the sweet mascarpone cream. Plus, that green hue? Insta-worthy.

About This Recipe

  • Ease in Making the Recipe: The process of this variation is almost the same as my ClassicTiramisu. The main difference is the use of matcha. the lady fingers are soked in matcha and the cake is dusted with matcha powder instead of cocoa powder.
  • Ingredients: All the ingredients you need to make the mango Tiramisu are easy to find. Make sure to buy good quality matcha for the best experience with this cake.
  • Texture, Taste & Flavor: Soft and fluffy matcha soaked lady fingers with a nice layers of creamy mascarpone cheese.
  • Make-Ahead: Yes you can make this ahead of time. I personally like making this a day ahead because I like the lady fingers to soak on the matcha and the whipped cheese. However, if you are in a hurry, you can also serve this the same day you make it. If this is what you want to do, add a bit more whip cream to the mixture so that you get a more fluid consistency for pouring on top of the lady finger layers before serving.

Ingredients for Matcha Tiramisu

  • Whipping Cream – The whip cream will help make the cream filling lighter, smoother and more fluid. Do not substitute with anything else.
  • Mascarpone Cheese – For traditional Tiramisu, go for mascarpone cheese. Some recipe uses cream cheese but it will not taste the same. It will be more like a no bake cheese cake that Tiramisu.
  • Icing Sugar – To sweeten the cream filling and for dusting the top. Icing sugar or confectioners sugar has a finer texture that dissolves better when whip. This will produce a smoother cream filling without any grainy texture.
  • Matcha
  • Water/Milk – to dilute the Matcha

Ingredients:

  • 125ml Whipping Cream
  • 110 grams Mascarpone Cheese
  • 25 grams Icing Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Matcha Powder (plus a bit more for dusting)
  • 3/4 cup Warm Water
  • 3-4 pieces Lady Fingers

Instructions:

  • Make the Cream Filling: Pour the cold whipping cream in the bowl. Sift the icing sugar. Add pure vanilla extract. Whisk until soft peaks. Add the mascarpone cheese and mix until just combined.
  • Soak the lady fingers in the coffee. Quickly soak the lady fingers in milk. Do NOT soak for too long as the lady fingers will break. Simply, dip while making sure both sides are wet then lift immediately.
  • Arrange the soak lady fingers and cream in a glass – Arrange the soak lady fingers in layers alternating with cream filling ending with cream on top.
    • If you are using a large container, you can have more layers. I did only 2 layers as I was using a small serving glass.
  • Chill: Cover with clingwrap and chill at least 1 hour or leave overnight. Do NOT dust with matcha before chilling as the matchar could absorb the moisture from the refrigerator and it will get wet.
  • Serve: Dust with matcha powder.

Recipe Notes:

  1. Use mascarpone cheese to get the traditional Tiramisu taste
  2. Do NOT soak the lady fingers for long. Dip quickly then lift. Lady fingers are airy cookie that absorb liquid quickly. Soaking for a long time will break the Tiramisu.
  3. Do NOT dust with matcha before chilling as the icing sugar could absorb the moisture from the refrigerator and it will get wet and watery.
