Vegan BBQ Cauliflower Pizza with Garlic Yogurt Dressing

This Vegan BBQ Cauliflower Pizza is absolutely flavorful and delicious. This is definitely not your regular pizza in so many levels, but at the same time in a good way. Consider this a healthier pizza option when you want to give yourself a break from eating meat.

What Makes This Pizza Different

BBQ Cauliflower Pizza

No Dairy Ingredients, hence it is a vegan pizza. But just because it’s vegan doesn’t mean it’s bland, it actually the opposite. This pizza is packed with flavors from the sauce, the roasted cauliflower to the garlic and yogurt dressing.

Pizza Dough – Made from scratch, so you know what goes in to that pizza dough itself. Simple ingredients like flour, water, salt, sugar, oil and yeast

Pizza Sauce – The pizza sauce is quite different too, and homemade as well. It’s a combination of spicy classic hummus and tomato paste. I used my recipe but store bought will work as well. This adds tons of flavor to the pizza.

The Cauliflower – a simple roasted cauliflower coated with smoked BBQ sauce. I added spices to the BBQ sauce to give it additional flavor and kick of heat, nothing much to be scared off

Garlic Yogurt Dressing – to compensate for the cheese that is missing in this recipe. It was a brilliant idea (thanks to Pickup Limes) that sealed the deal for this pizza. It made a lot o difference adding the dressing, so don’t skip it.

Small Batch BBQ Cauliflower Pizza

I was skeptical at first to try this recipe but I decided to give it a try anyway, and I am so glad I did. I am one of these people who thinks pizza is not the same without the cheese, after all we cannot deny the fact that cheese does makes pizza delicious. I was almost on the verge of cheating an wanted to add cheese to this pizza, but I decided to give it a try first. I was surprisingly pretty please with the taste, and I really enjoyed eating it.

The BBQ flavor come through in a subtle way, the addition of spices gave a really nice flavor, the slight kick of heat I just perfect. The hummus and tomato sauce is good and thick, and the dressing! The dressing really sold this pizza to me. I felt satisfied after eating eat, and quite light as compared to eating traditional pizza. I am not saying that I am not going to eat the traditional pizza again, but this Vegan BBQ Cauliflower Pizza is definitely staying in my pizza rotation for good. My special thanks to Pickup Limes for this recipe. I tweak a bit and added few slices, used my own pizza dough recipe but the I still retail the concept. So, shall we make this pizza now? Freeze and Bake Later

Bake immediately as soon as you add the toppings. If you plan to serve it later, I suggest you keep the unbaked-pizza inside the refrigerator or even in the freeze but not in room temperature. The reason for this is because if you leave it in took temperature say 1 hour, the pizza dough will rise because it has a leavening agent added to it. It will get fluffy and not sense and chewy. I made this mistake once and I ended up with a puff-up pizza, almost like a flatbread.

  • Option 1 – Freeze the Pizza Crust: Shape, cover and freeze the pizza dough. Add the toppings when ready to bake.
  • Option 2: – Freeze the Pizza with Toppings: Assemble the pizza (all with pizza sauce and cauliflower). Transfer in a parchment lined baking tray. Freeze for 2-4 hours or until hard enough to warp in plastic warp or aluminum foil. Once wrap, store in the freezer until ready to bake.

When ready to bake, bake straight from the refrigerator or freezer. You may need to add 3-5 more minutes in the baking time.

Ingredients:

Pizza Dough

  • 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon warm Water (110F)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Active Yeast
  • 3/4 teaspoon granulated Sugar
  • 2 tablespoon flavorless Oil
  • 3/4 cups Bread Flour or All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

BBQ Cauliflower

  • 300g Cauliflower Florets
  • 1/4 cup BBQ Sauce

Transfer in a parchment line baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.
    • TIP: Bake a large batch and use the remaining to make buddha bowls or stir fry noodles
  • Make the Pizza Dough: Pour the water in a bowl, add sugar active dry yeast. Stir and leave for 10 minutes or until foam forms on top. Add the oil, flour and salt and mix until combined. You can do this manually or use a stand mixer if you have one. Transfer in a floured surface and knead until it forms into a dough. Spray the bowl with oil and put the dough inside. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Make the Pizza Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix hummus, tomato paste, salt, garlic powder, paprika, dried oregano, basil and thyme.
  • Make the Yogurt Dressing: In a separate bowl, mix plain greek yogurt, mince garlic, salt and dill.
  • Assemble the Pizza: Shape the pizza dough into your desired shape. Keep it to about 1/4-inch – 1/3-inch thick. Fold the edge to create a boarder crust. Spread the pizza sauce and scatter the cauliflower on top. Sprinkle sesame seed.
  • Bake at 400F for 10 minutes at lower rack, then move the pizza in the middle rack and bake for another 10 minutes
  • Serve: Garnish with chopped green onion then drizzle top with garlic yogurt dressing
