[VIDEO] Explore Whistler, BC: Whistler Gondola from Whistler Village

I love doing short local trips. It a nice way to relax, chill and catch up with friends. Today, I want to take you with me in my fun day trip full of delicious food and breathtaking views .

Whistler .. a local favorite Summer and Winter Destinations

I am blessed and everyday thankful to be leaving in such a beautiful place like British Columbia (BC). Compared to the other Canada provinces, British Columbia or BC have better weather in terms of snow fall. We do not get as much snow, but people joke around calling Vancouver “Raincouver” because we get more rain than snow. I personally prefer rain than snow, so I am not complaining at all. Every time I see in the news how other places are bombarded with snow as early as Oct until May, I always remind myself how lucky I am to be here.

But today is not about snow 🙂 that will come in about 4 – 5 months. For now, let me show you how I make the most of Summer in BC.

We do have a lot of tourist attractions in BC that are also locals favorite. Whether you are looking for things to do within lower mainland, or looking to get away for a day trip or long weekend, we got you covered. In today’s post, I will show you my day trip with friends in Whistler BC. I’ve been to this place countless times already and I alwasy enjoy it everytime. A change of scenery, delicious food and good company is always welcome in my book.

Before we start our gondola ride, let’s have breakfast first. have a look at Fergie’s Cafe, I made a short video here.

  • Breakfast at Fergie’s Cafe @Squamish, BC – gives you an idea where to have breakfast or brunch on the way to Whistler

Let’s Start the Day with Breakfast @Fergies Cafe in Squamish

Breakfast or brunch is always a must whenever we go out of town. It doesn’t matter where, it could be grab and go or a sit in option. Very few places offers a sit down meal option along teh way to Squamish or Whistler, but we found one that is worth the stop.

I have a separate post about Fergie’s Cafe that I released last week. If you missed that post, have a look at it. I left a link at Featured Posts section at the end of this post, or if you are excited to see it now, click HERE. Here is a short video to inspire you to visit this place.

Tips for the Trip

  • Plan Ahead – Weather you are driving to go to Whistler or taking a shuttle bus, it is always good to plan ahead. Weekdays are better time to visit as it is not as busy, but if weekend is all you have alloted then book ahead if you are taking a shuttle .
  • Check the weather– Always check the weather before you go. Whistler could get really hot during the Summer but can also be cold at times especially at the top.
  • Wear proper clothes for the weather: Regardelss if it is super sunny, I always bring with me a light jacket. The weather at the top of the mounatin could change easily and even on a nice day it could be windy and cold at the top.
  • Bring Snacks – There are a lot of places to eat at the village and there is also a restaurant at the top. Depending on what you plan to do at the top, I often find that bringing a snack with me is not a bad idea. A simple cookie, granola bars or some chips are handy especially if we do hiking at the top.
  • Come in Early – If you are taking the gondola ride, I highly recommend taht you come early to maximize the price you pay for. It costed us 90CAD per person to for the unlimited gondola ride both for blackcomb and Whistler Muntain, plus the peak express chair lift to access the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye.

What’s at the top

  • Dine
  • Hike
  • Walk
  • Shop
  • Ride the xpress Chairlift to see Cloudracker Suspension Bridge & Ravens Eye Look Out View

Whistler Village is a nice day trip or weekend get away. Ther are fun activities that you can do depending on the season you visit the place. Whistler Village offers good choices of dining places, shopping, night life and out door activities. A lot of these you can do at the Village itself, but if you would like to experience Whistler at its best, take the gondola ride. It is quite pricey, but it is worth it.

The gondola ride from the Whistler Village to the Roundhouse will take about 15 minutes with a capacity of 8 persons per gondola. You will pass 2 stations. The first one is where people who ski get off, that mean if you are just seight seeing, stay put and do not leave the gondola until you reach the 2nd station which is the last stop.

At the top, you will find the Round House, this is the main building where you can dine and do a bit (or a lot) of shopping. Just a tip, buying souvenir items in any tourist place is quite more expensive and this place is no exception.

Whistler Patio Dining

Reharge and Dine

The restaurant in theround house is quite huge, they have both indoor and out door dining. If the weather is good on Summer days, the patio seating gets crowded. For me, if you can find a comforatble patio seating, go for it. The view in teh patio is stunning. I’ve been in this place both Summer and Winter and both season offers stunning view in different ways.

Visit the Cloudraker Suspension Bridge & Raven’s Eye

From the Roundhouse, you can head to take the Express Chairlift to see the Cloudraker Suspension Bridge & Raven’s Eye. If you are not scared of heights , I highly recommend taking the express chairlift. You get stunning view of Whistler while riding the lift and when you get to the look out point and the suspension bridge.

Hiking in Whistler

Access to the hiking trails is just few minutes away from the roundhouse. There are several trails y you can explore depending on the difficulty level. I did 2 hikes and they were both worth it.

If you like or love hiking, there are hiking trails to choose from at the top. Two of my favorite are these two here. The Harmony Trail is an easy trail. Generally considered a moderately challenging route (of course this depends also in your physica conditon). Tt takes an average of 55 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

Experience this 1.4-km loop trail near Whistler, British Columbia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 31 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October.
