Explore Vancouver: Me Time @Monaco Cafe

I look forward to weekend but most especially Sunday. Weekend is a time to recharge, relax and chill. Weekend is for sleeping in/waking up late, doing nothing much and exploring places.

Sunday is the day where I like to hangout in cafe after my early morning activity. Summer is the best time to do this in Vancouver while the weather is hot and the days are longer.

I am not a heavy eater for breakfast. A simple hot or cold drink, a savory item and a sweet ending is all I want. Cafe for me is the best place to find these. Above all these, what I love about hanging out in local cafe is that I can stay longer without having the feeling of being rushed out.

Cafe Monaco in Gas Town, Vancouver is my new found cafe hangout place. I stumbled in this place when I was looking for the “The Skewers” restaurant. A new popular place that serves skewers platters and pitta.

Monaco Cafe is located at Gas Town, another popular area in Downtown Vancouver. This, along with Yaletown is somewhat the rustic historical part of downtown Vancouver.

The location of Monaco Cafe is perfect! It sits almost in the middle Gastown. The shape of the Cafe is quite unique. Because of the odd location, the cafe is building is triangular in shape.

I love that the sides are all glass, making the small space feels larger than the actual size. On sunny and hot day like this, sitting inside still made me feel close to outdoor, less the heat of the sun and the uncomfortable sweating.

Although small, the interior is quite nice. The arrangement and placement of the sitting and tables were fully maximized. There is a long communal table at the center, few two seater, bar sitting and few coaches to lounge.

I specifically love the huge tropical plant in the center and the use of wood material for the tables and chair. It made the space feel lighter and minimalist in some ways while at the same time providing ample space for sitting.

The cafe offers variety of items. They have cold and hot drinks, hot sandwiches and plenty of mouthwatering mini pastries , cakes and tarts.

I wanted to try a lot of the items, but I can only eat so much. This is what I ended up ordering. I am definitely going back here again to try other items.

Ham & Cheese Croissant – 8.95CAD

I am a savory and sweet breakfast eater especially if I start really early. For the savory item, I ordered Hal and Cheese Croissant. Nothing fancy, but it was good enough for full my savory requirement.

Vanilla Creme Puff – 5.95CAD

For the sweet ending, I chose Vanilla Creme Puff. They do have other flavor like hazelnut and strawberry 🍓. I opted for the plain and basic one to start with. The Creme puff was generously filled with vanilla cream. It was a bit sweet for my liking. I was hoping to have a more creamier not too sweet custard filling. That would have made it a lot better.

Matcha 🍵 Latte – Medium 5.95CAD

I was hoping to order the Pink Latte or the Blue Matcha Latte but they do not have both and so I decided to get Matcha instead. I would have to say that the serving portion was a lot more than I am used to which is not bad. Nothing special with it, just how I expect a matcha latte.’

Overall, I highly recommend this cafe. It has a very nice cozy feel, good products, nice staff and not too crowded like most brand name cafes. Let’s support local 🙂

That’s it for now. Wishing you a great weekend or week ahead. Until my next foodie adventure. Byeeeee!
