[VIDEO] Explore Vancouver: Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom

It is officially Spring and what a better way to welcome Spring than seeing these beautiful Cherry Blossoms ❤️🌸

Cherry Blossom 2023

Cherry blossoms, also known as sakura, are delicate and enchanting flowers that hold deep cultural significance in various parts of the world.

Cherry Blossoms in Vancouver is one of the indication that Spring is really here. There’s a lot of places where you can view Cherry Blossoms and I am fortunate to be close to some of these places.

Gary Point Park in Richmond is my go to place to view them because this is closer to me. I’ve read that the peak of the blossom will be between March 21 – 23 and so I decided to visit the place on March 21. It was not as in bloom as in other area but nonetheless is was a nice trip.

I went for a walk in Steveston Village to pass the time. The weather forecast for the weekend was supposed to be rain, rain and I did not want to miss the full bloom.

But anyways, Sunday turned out to be a nice sunny day so I had a second chance to view the bloom in Downtown Vancouver.

This was taken near the Waterfront Station, close to 200 Granville Street. I actually did not know that there’s a bloom in this area, but. Ow that I know I will definitely stop by this area every year during Cherry Blossoms season.

Symbolism and Ephemeral Beauty

  • Cherry blossoms symbolize renewal, transience, and the ephemeral nature of life. Their brief but breathtaking appearance each spring serves as a reminder of life’s fleeting moments.
  • These blossoms are often associated with new beginnings, making them a cherished motif in art, literature, and celebrations.

Varieties and Species:

  • The cherry blossom belongs to the genus Prunus, specifically the subgenus Cerasus.
  • The most well-known species is the Japanese Cherry Tree (Prunus serrulata), commonly referred to as sakura.
  • Other ornamental cherry trees, such as cultivars of Prunus serrulata, also produce these delicate blossoms.

Blooming Season

Cherry blossoms typically bloom in spring, creating a stunning display of pink and white hues. The blooming period is relatively short, lasting no more than two weeks.

The Coal harbour area is also nice spot to view Cherry Blossoms. They don’t have a lot but the line of Cherry Blossoms tree is enough to make people stop to take a photo. I normally just do Garry Point Park and select locations in Downtown but there are a lot of places where you can witness these beautiful blooms. Here are some of the places to go.

Best Locations to See Cherry Blossoms in Vancouver

Graveley Street (at Lillooet):

  • This section of Graveley Street between Lillooet and Rupert is an Instagram-favorite for cherry blossoms.
  • Towering cherry trees create a pink canopy overhead, and beautiful white blooms adorn the Rupert end.
  • Remember, it’s a residential street, so be mindful of passing cars and respect the residents.

Queen Elizabeth Park:

  • A classic spot, Queen Elizabeth Park, offers a high concentration of cherry blossoms.
  • Head to the west entrance off 33rd Avenue or the south entrance on 37th for picturesque views.

This is another great place to visit. Queen Elizabeth Park is huge and if you have more time, you can go around and walk the rest of the park. This park is quite poplar to visit during Spring and Summer.

Granville Island:

  • Visit the quiet eastern end of Granville Island to enjoy a cluster of cherry blossom trees along the seawall. This one is outside of downtown area but also accesible by public transportation. Good thing about going to this place is that there’s more youc an do than just see Cherry Blossoms. Granville Island is one of our tourist attraction that even locals love to hangout and visit.

West 22nd Avenue:

  • Along eight consecutive city blocks of West 22nd Avenue, from Arbutus Street to Carnarvon Street, you’ll find charming cherry blossoms.

Burrard Station (SkyTrain):

  • Art Phillips Park at Burrard SkyTrain Station in downtown Vancouver boasts lovely cherry blossoms. This one is very accesible when you are in downtown Vancouver. This is one of the Sky Train Station stop. I did not go to this place because it was not on the route that I decided to do.

Sunday was really a nice sunny day. After my Cherry Blossoms walk, I decided to buy food and eat at the English Bay Beach. The beach was packed with people, as expected for weather like this. It was a very nice realx day. Looking forward to more sunny days ahead.
