[VIDEO] Explore Whistler, BC : Peak to Peak Gondola Ride @Whistler BC

We’ve come to 5th posts for my Whistler posts and I hope you are finding these posts interesting. Today I am going to show you the gondola 🚠 ride in Blackcomb Mountain. This is the Peak to Peak gondola ride, one of the 2 gondola ride that is included when you buy a day pass ticket.

In my previous posts, I’ve shared with you the Whistler Village Gondola which is the smaller gondola that starts from the Whistler Village. We’ve also seen the Exoress Chairlift which took us up to the Cloudraker Suspension Bridge and Raven’s Eye Lookout Point.

You can do either of the gondola ride in whatever sequence you prefer. We did this one first because we were parked close to the gondola entrance of this Peak to Peak gondola but most visitors take the Gondola from the Whistler Village and then from the top you can line up to access the Peak to Peak Gondola ride.

Before we start the virtual tour for the Peak to Peak, have a look at Fergie’s Cafe post and watch the video below. Breakfast is a good way to start the day right and nothing is better than stopping for food at Fergie’s Cafe. This is a popular stopover when going to Whistler.

Let’s Start the Day with Breakfast @Fergies Cafe in Squamish

Breakfast or brunch is always a must whenever we go out of town. It doesn’t matter where, it could be grab and go or a sit in option. Very few places offers a sit down meal option along teh way to Squamish or Whistler, but we found one that is worth the stop.

I have a separate post about Fergie’s Cafe that I released. If you missed that post, have a look at it. I left a link at Featured Posts section at the end of this post, or if you are excited to see it now, click HERE. Here is a short video to inspire you to visit this place.

Now, let’s go to the main activities that we did. There ar ea lot of outdoor activities that you can do in Whistler whether you take the gondoal or not. Gondola ride is quite expensive but in my opinion is worth if if you have a budget for it.

Tips for the Trip

  • Plan Ahead – Weather you are driving to go to Whistler or taking a shuttle bus, it is always good to plan ahead. Weekdays are better time to visit as it is not as busy, but if weekend is all you have alloted then book ahead if you are taking a shuttle .
  • Check the weather– Always check the weather before you go. Whistler could get really hot during the Summer but can also be cold at times especially at the top.
  • Wear proper clothes for the weather: Regardelss if it is super sunny, I always bring with me a light jacket. The weather at the top of the mounatin could change easily and even on a nice day it could be windy and cold at the top.
  • Bring Snacks – There are a lot of places to eat at the village and there is also a restaurant at the top. Depending on what you plan to do at the top, I often find that bringing a snack with me is not a bad idea. A simple cookie, granola bars or some chips are handy especially if we do hiking at the top.
  • Come in Early – If you are taking the gondola ride, I highly recommend taht you come early to maximize the price you pay for. It costed us 90CAD per person to for the unlimited gondola ride both for blackcomb and Whistler Muntain, plus the peak express chair lift to access the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye.

Peak to Peak Gondola Ride @Blackcomb Mountain

There are 2 Gondola ride in Whistler. One is the Peak 2 Peak at Blackcomb Mountain and the other one is the Whistler Mountain Gondola. Both gondola offers different view and are worth trying. The peak 2 peak is the longer one which is a more favorite among skiers ⛷️ during the Winter season.

For this post, I am sharing with you the Peak 2 Peak Gondola Ride at Blackcomb Mountain. We did this one first because this is the closer one to where we park the vehicle but you can do whichever of the 2 you want to do first.

The gondola ride are the highlight of this trip. We had the time to do 2 gondola ride and 1 chairlift ride. The ticket price was 99CAD for the whole day which includes unlimted gondola and chairlift ride.

The ride took about 11 minutes, for a 4.4km (2.7 miles). It may sound short but for a gondola ride that is quite long already. The ride was enjoyable (assuming you are not scared of heights). The beautiful scenic mountains are a sight to see and made the ride enjoyable.

Regular Gondola vs Glass floor Gondola

There are 2 types of gondola for the peak to peak. The first one is the regular gondola and the other one is a glass floor gondola. The later always gets longer line up. I’ve tried both and I personally do not think it is worth the long wait for the glass floor gondola. Just to set the expectation right, the entire floor is not glass. Only a small portion at the center and the small area is enclosed with a railing which means when the gondola is full, it will be more like a first come first serve to get to the railing area to have a peak at the bottom.

What to do at the top

The Blackcomb Mountain is more famous for winter activities.

If you feel like doing some hiking activities, you can do this in Whistler Mountain. There is a separate gondola from the Whistler Village to take you to this side of the Mountain. Have a look at this video.

Whistler Hiking

The Alpine and Harmony Trail Hike are both in Whistler Mountain. Watch the short video to get an idea of the trails.

If you like or love hiking, there are hiking trails to choose from at the top. Two of my favorite are these two here. The Harmony Trail is an easy trail. Generally considered a moderately challenging route (of course this depends also in your physica conditon). Tt takes an average of 55 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

Experience this 1.4-km loop trail near Whistler, British Columbia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 31 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October.
