[VIDEO] Refreshing Green Tea Mint Limenade

We’re continuing on our cold drinks series and what better way to quench our thirst but with an ice cold Green Tea Mint Limenade. The name itself shouts refreshing. This is a very simple iced tea drink with a nice citrus flavor from lime and lots of freshness from fresh mint.

With the weather getting warmer and warmer everyday, I think we all agree that we need something that will cool us off and keep us feeling refresh. Since it is Summer, I am making a seasonal post just for the Summer season. The post will mostly be about Summer drinks and frozen treats to keep us cool and comfy during the Summer season. If it is not Summer where you are right now, do not worry because you can always go back and search for these recipes whenever Summer arrives in your area or if you just want to get chilled. Some of the drinks that I am sharing here can be made any day of the year, I say bring the ice cream out on Winter 🙂

This is one of the simplest, refreshing iced tea drinks I’ve made so far. Just a simple green tea with Lime and fresh Mint, it tastes good. Refreshing for sure.

I love making variations of iced tea, I like options to make it more interesting and different. On days when all I want is something quick and simple, I’ll go with this Green Tea Mint Limenade. The name literally gives away what this is. A simple green tea infused with fresh Mint and lovely citrus Lime flavor.

How To Make Simple Sugar Syrup

Simple syrup is simply dissolved and lightly reduced sugar + water. The basic ratio is 1:1, meaning 1 part sugar to 1 part water (i.e 1 cup sugar: 1 cup water), it is basically an equal part of sugar and water.

But, if you like it thick and sweeter, you can do a 1:2 ratio (i.e 1/2 cup water : 1 cup sugar). The yield will be less, but it is thicker and sweeter, which means you will use less of it.

You can make sugar syrup using granulated white sugar for a clear syrup OR light or dark brown sugar for a darker syrup. The darker syrup are great for coffee or dark tea based drinks as this will not affect the color of the drink that much.

The clear syrup is best for drinks that you want to keep the original color without making it brownish in color. The clear white syrup tends to be sweeter than the brown sugar, but brown sugar has that light caramel flavor from the molasses in the brown sugar. In the end, it all boils down to preference.

I used a combination of sliced Lime and Lime juice for better Lime flavor. Subtle is how I like it and 1-2 Lime will do the work for that. Lime has a stronger citrus flavor than Lemon 🍋 and have a more quite distinct flavor. Tue combination of Lime and Mint are great together, they shine without overpowering each other. With green tea being a mild flavored tea, adding Lime and Mint helps bring flavor to this iced tea.

Green Tea Mint Limenade

Let’s check the list of ingredients that you will need to make this drink.

  • Green Tea – I used 2 tea bags. Loose leaf tea can be used as well.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves – I always like adding fresh mint to my juice, it adds so much freshness. If you do not have mint, feel free to skip it. Maybe try Basil for a change.
  • Liquid Sweetener – I always recommend using liquid sweetener for cold drinks as this dissolves easily. Simple syrup is an easy choice that you can make at home. You can also use store-bought plain or flavored syrup, I see a lot of those in the market.!
  • Ice Cubes – lots of ice!

Make-Ahead:

I highly recommend making this ahead of time if you can. I like making this at night for serving the next day. This allows the Lime and Mint flavor to be stronger giving the tea a better flavor. Think of it as herb infused tea, the longer it is infused, the better flavor. This is a great tea to make for a big batch serving. Make a big pitcher ready for you to drink when you are feeling like an iced cold iced tea. Sometimes, simple is good 🙂

Green tea offers many health benefits due to its high concentration of antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds. Some of the key benefits of green tea include:

  4. May Improve Brain Function: The presence of caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine in green tea can lead to improved brain function, including enhanced mood, vigilance, and reaction time.
  5. Supports Oral Health: The catechins in green tea have the potential to inhibit the growth of bacteria and viruses in the mouth, reducing the risk of infections and promoting overall dental health.
  6. May Lower the Risk of Certain Cancers: Some studies suggest that the powerful antioxidants in green tea may help protect against certain types of cancers, such as breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers.
