[VIDEO] Explore Whistler, BC: Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye @Whistler, BC

Hello Again. Today we are on our 4th posts for the Whistler series. Just like the previous Whistler post, this will be another adventure that I hope you will enjoy as much as I did.

After taking the Express Chairlift to the top of the Whistler Mountain, we are now ready to explore what’s there to see at the top. That thrilling and for some a scary chairlift lift, it better be worth it, and it was indeed worth it. Let’s go and walk around, cross the Cloudraker Suspension Bridge and admire the breathtaking view from the Raven’s Eye Lookout point.

But before that, have a look at Fergie’s short video for a brunch before you start your day. Once your done, scroll down and let’s get started with the virtual tour 🙂

Let’s Start the Day with Breakfast @Fergies Cafe in Squamish

Breakfast or brunch is always a must whenever we go out of town. It doesn’t matter where, it could be grab and go or a sit in option. Very few places offers a sit down meal option along teh way to Squamish or Whistler, but we found one that is worth the stop.

I have a separate post about Fergie’s Cafe that I released last week. If you missed that post, have a look at it. I left a link at Featured Posts section at the end of this post, or if you are excited to see it now, click HERE. Here is a short video to inspire you to visit this place.

Now, let’s go to the main activities that we did. There are a lot of outdoor activities that you can do in Whistler whether you take teh gondoal or not. Gondola ride is quite expensive but in my opinion it is worth if if you have a budget for it.

Tips for the Trip

  • Plan Ahead – Weather you are driving to go to Whistler or taking a shuttle bus, it is always good to plan ahead. Weekdays are better time to visit as it is not as busy, but if weekend is all you have alloted then book ahead if you are taking a shuttle .
  • Check the weather– Always check the weather before you go. Whistler could get really hot during the Summer but can also be cold at times especially at the top.
  • Wear proper clothes for the weather: Regardelss if it is super sunny, I always bring with me a light jacket. The weather at the top of the mounatin could change easily and even on a nice day it could be windy and cold at the top.
  • Bring Snacks – There are a lot of places to eat at the village and there is also a restaurant at the top. Depending on what you plan to do at the top, I often find that bringing a snack with me is not a bad idea. A simple cookie, granola bars or some chips are handy especially if we do hiking at the top.
  • Come in Early – If you are taking the gondola ride, I highly recommend taht you come early to maximize the price you pay for. It costed us 90CAD per person to for the unlimited gondola ride both for blackcomb and Whistler Muntain, plus the peak express chair lift to access the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye.

The express chairlift gives visitors access to the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye. A trip to Whistler isn’t complete without a walk along the Cloudraker Skybridge, a 130-metre alpine suspension bridge that gives you incredible views out over the Coast Mountains.

Fun Facts

  • to be able access the Cloudraker Skybridge visitors need to ride the open Peak Express chairlift. To ride the Peak Express, guests must be 40” (3.3 feet or 1 M) or taller and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children must be taller than 40” and 12 years or older to ride alone.
  • The Cloudraker Skybridge will span 130m from Whistler Peak to the West Ridge, crossing high above Whistler Bowl.
  • The Raven’s Eye consists of a viewing platform with 360° views from Whistler’s Peak.
  • The cantilevered walkway that will extend 12.5m out from the West Ridge, with exhilarating views well above Whistler Bowl.

Cloudraker Skybridge

Crossing the cloudraker suspension bridge is one of the highlight of going to the top. During busy days, it is quite challenging to stop in the middle to take a photo as there are a lot of people behind you waiting for the turn to cross the bridge. I walked slow when crossing the bridge to enjoy the view, but sometimes because I get scared when the bridge starts to sway when a lot of people are crossing or someone thinks it’s fun and funny to actually to swing the bridge.

Compared to most suspension bridge that I crossed in BC, this one is quite sturdy and it is made form steel, not wood like the others. Nonetheless, because it was suspended quite high and there is a tendency to be windy at the top; it cannot be avoided that sometimes the bridge will give that swinging feeling.

Raven’s Eye

At one end you’ll find the Raven’s Eye Lookout, a phenomenal viewing platform that gives you 360-degree mountain vista.

Just like you suspension bridge, this out point tends to get busy as well. You will have to be quick and patient at the same time for a chance to get a good photo. We had to wait for the area to be a bit cleared out just to take a nice photo.

The corner edge are good position to get a good photo. I asked my friends to take couple of shots and they did a great job. If you’ve been reading my travel posts, you probably know by now that I only do back shots of me.

Once done at the suspension bridge and raven’s eye, we explored the other areas. Every area at the top offers a different view of the surrounding. We took a lot of photos but I can only upload few in this post. I’ll create a separate Facebook album, if you want to see more I will leave the link below.

This area here is another favorite photo site to capture the Inukshuk statue and the breathtaking mountain view in front.

If you still have time and energy to go around, there are good hiking trail at the base (Roubdhouse). Below are 2 of the hiking trails that I did, I highly recommend these two trails. Have a look and let me know what you think. Do you like hiking? Where is your favorite hiking place? Let me know in the comments.

Hiking in Whistler

If you like or love hiking, there are hiking trails to choose from at the top. Two of my favorite are these two here. The Harmony Trail is an easy trail. Generally considered a moderately challenging route (of course this depends also in your physica conditon). Tt takes an average of 55 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

Experience this 1.4-km loop trail near Whistler, British Columbia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 31 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October.
