Victoria, BC is a city that knows how to charm. With its historic architecture, ocean views, and walkable downtown, it’s no wonder visitors fall in love at first sight. And at the heart of it all? The stunning Inner Harbour and the iconic Parliament Buildings—two must-see landmarks that define the city’s character and beauty.

Welcome to Victoria
Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is a city that blends old-world elegance with west coast cool. Known for its British colonial architecture, vibrant gardens, and oceanfront views, it’s a favorite for both locals and tourists. Victoria is a popular day trip or short stay visit if you are visiting Vancouver. I have to say, I had been going back to Victoria countless times already and I still find it worth it every time I visit the place.
Victoria have a different vibe than Vancouver. What I love about it is that it is not as big and busy as Vancouver and even if you do not have a car, it is pretty easy to go around on foot to check the attractions. Of course there are also a lot of attractions outside of downtown area, but for a day trip without a car is very doable in my opinion.

Victoria 101:A City Steeped in Story Book Charm
As the capital of British Columbia, Victoria blends colonial elegance with laid-back island vibes. Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, it’s known for its gardens, heritage buildings, and vibrant arts scene. Whether you arrive by ferry, plane, or cruise ship, the city welcomes you with open arms—and a view that’s hard to beat.

Getting There: Easy Access to the Heart of the City
If you’re coming from Vancouver, hop on the BC Ferries to Swartz Bay (this will take about 1 1/2 hr) and take a scenic 30-minute drive or bus ride into downtown.
The bus is right in front of the BC Ferry station. It is a double decker so it can carry more passengers than the usual bus. Prepare exact fare as the driver do not carry change.
From the airport, it’s about 25 minutes by car. Once you’re in the city, the Inner Harbour and Parliament Buildings are just steps away from most hotels, making them perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Inner Harbour: Where Land Meets Sea in Style
The Inner Harbour is Victoria’s postcard-perfect waterfront. Watch floatplanes land, ferries glide by, and street performers entertain along the causeway. It’s a hub of activity, especially in summer when events like Symphony Splash fill the air with music and fireworks. Grab a coffee, sit by the water, and soak in the maritime magic. The harbor is hard to. miss if you are in downtown Victoria as this is the center of most things to see and do.
Parliament Building: A Grand Slice of BC History
Dominating the harbourfront is the Parliament Buildings, home to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. Designed by Francis Rattenbury and completed in 1897, these neo-baroque beauties are open for free guided tours year-round. Inside, you’ll find ornate chambers, stained glass, and stories of political intrigue. Don’t miss the statue of Queen Victoria and the gold-covered dome that gleams in the sun.
Downtown Discoveries: Shopping and Strolling
Just beyond the Parliament lawn lies downtown Victoria, a treasure trove of boutiques, bookstores, and artisan shops. Wander through Government Street for souvenirs, pop into Munro’s Books for literary gems, or explore Market Square for local crafts. It’s a shopper’s paradise with a distinctly Victorian twist. Even though I do not shop when I go to Victoria, strolling by the Government Street is a nice activity that I like to do. I may not shop, but I often stop by for a sweet treat, like soft serve ice cream from Flavoris.

Nearby Attractions & Eats
Hungry? You’re in luck. The area is packed with dining options—if you are feeling like the royalty, a high tea at the Fairmont Empress is a fancy option, or if you are feeling like casual dining, afresh seafood at Red Fish Blue Fish. Nearby, you’ll find the Royal BC Museum, Beacon Hill Park, and Fisherman’s Wharf (MUST place to visit) —all within walking distance. Whether you’re into history, nature, or just good eats, there’s something for everyone.
For me, if there is a must place to visit when in Downtown Victoria, it has to be the Parliament Building. There’s something about this building that just look so beautiful. It’s rugged and old style but it stands tall, proud and beautiful. I don’t think you can miss this building, it simply catches your attention as soon as you pass by. There is a free tour to visit the inside if you are curious to see the interior.

As always, a short walk at the inner harbour front is a must for me. The harbour area is a bit small, but it’s situated across the parliament building. This is a good spot to take photo and capture the Parliament from afar. Feeling hungry? There are also cafe and restaurants nearby.

I’m Ready to Go Home
Time to go home! It’s a long ride to Vancouver (4hrs) and I want to catch the 2nd to the last ferry which was 8:00PM. This gets me to Twassen terminal by 9:30PM. Once thing I have to mention is that the bus schedule when you use google doesn’t match the actual time the bus arrives. The google shows later time as the actual bus arrival. There were posted time schedules in the stops so it’s better to rely on that, or come earlier in the bus stop to be sure.

I had a wonderful sunset sailing back to Vancouver which was a treat. I cannot ask for a better ending. Anyway, I got back safely and in time. It was a lovely day after all. That’s about it! I hope you had fun 🙂 Until my next adventure m. Byee!
