There are 7 layers of gooey gooey treat in this 7 Layers Magic Bar. It starts with a base crust of crushed cookie like graham crackers, digestive biscuit or shortbread cookie as base, followed by shredded coconut, chocolate chips, nuts, toffee crunch, white chocolate chips and condensed milk to make all the layers stick together. With all these 7 layers , you get crunch, a lot of different texture, loads of dark and white chocolate and slight caramel flavor. Isn’t it a real treat?

7 Sinfully Delicious Layers
- Biscuit Crust – the base of the bar is a buttery cookie crust made from crushed Graham biscuits, but you can also use crushed digestive biscuit or shortbread cookie (my personal favorite)
- Coconut – the 2nd layer is coconut, shredded or flakes. This gives a nice texture, plus nice tropical coconut flavor
- Chocolate Chips – the 3rd layer, this bar is not compete without the layer of chocolate chips. I like to use dark chocolate to tame the sweetness of all other ingredients
- Nuts – chopped Pecans or Walnuts adds a nice crunch to this bar, plus I think it also helps lessen the sweetness of the bar. Feel free to use Cashew or Almonds, even Peanuts.
- Toffee Crunch – for a touch of crunch, and caramel flavor. You can remove this or add more of the other ingredients to replace it and totally replace it with something else (the likes of Marshmallow, rice crispy, M&M’s, Easter candy)
- White Chocolate – I like the combination of dark and white chocolate, this adds creaminess to the bar
- Condense Milk – the sticky sweet thick condensed milk is what binds all these ingredients together

How to Make 7 Layers Magic Bar
This is such an easy recipe, it is just a matter of layering. SO let’s do this!
- Make the Base Crust: Start by mixing the melted butter and crushed graham crackers. You can also use digestive biscuit as substitute, I have also tried using crushed shortbread cookie. The amount of butter could slightly vary depending on the quality of the biscuit/cookie that you are using. Older cookie/biscuit will require more butter as they tend to be drier. If you feel that it is still a little bit dry to make it come together, add few more melted butter. Press the crust onto a prepared lined baking pan/dish. Lining the pan is advisable for easy removal.
- Layer: Once the crust is ready, start layering. You can layer it in the order that you prefer, I strongly suggest having the condensed milk as the last layer. This way, the condensed milk will flow down in every layer and will make each layer stick together.
- Bake the bar until the condensed milk starts to brown.
- Cool: You will have to practice patience and control though, this bar needs to cool down before slicing it. This way, you get a nice clean cut and the bar will not fall apart

A Touch of Salt
A sprinkling of salt makes a difference in this recipe. Because a lot of the ingredient are sweet, sprinkling some salt on top helps lessen the sweetness, just some hint of saltiness is really nice.

Do I Have to Make the Layers in Specific Order?
Not really, you can re-order it to your liking. My preference is to not have both sweet ingredients close to each other (if possible). Some recipe add coconut close to the top, the order doesn’t matter. The only thing that is a MUST is to have the biscuit crust as the first layer for the base and the top layer should be the condensed milk as this is what will bind the ingredients together.

Substitutions: Be Creative & Have Fun
Don’t get too stuck with the 5 ingredients that you can substitute with something else. Be creative and have fun. You can substitute some ingredients here, replace something that fits the occasion. Like for the holiday season, M&M’s adds a nice festive look to the bar. Mini marshmallow and rice crispy are two of my favorite substitute. I usually do substitution for toffee. Tips when using marshmallow, add it on top in the last 5 minutes of baking then add few bits of chocolate chips when you add it. For the rice crispy, I like to layer it close to the chocolate chips. You can also add Easter candy for the Easter celebration or some red M&M and some sprinkle for Valentines Day. How about a touch of fruity taste in the bar? Summer is a good chance to add some Raspberry or Cherry to the bar.
