We’re finally getting the sun that we had been waiting for a long time. Out March and April had been wet and chilly. Who you think that it’s almost Spring, then a cold day hits you which take you back to feeling like it’s winter.
This weekend and almost the whole week next week forecast are all sunny days, like 13C sunny, and today was the start of that sunny days.
I started planning my weekend outdoor activity and going to White Rock to walk down the Canada’s longest pier was the top on my list. To be honest, it’s not just tue pier, it’s the fish and chips, the ice cream and the nice breeze in the beach and the warm heat of the sun.
This was on my to do list since last year but never got the chance to do it. It was far from me, and taking a public transportation will take about 1 1/2 hr or 1 hr 45 minutes which was the reason why I keep on postponing it. By driving, it will only take 43 minutes which is not bad, what’s bad is the parking situation when you get to the seaside.
The trip was long but the transfer and ride was easy. I found the one that works with me and it was even easier than I expect it to be.
I left the house noon and I got there almost 3PM, yes it was a long trip but it was worth it. I did not have anything planned for that day anyway so it was nice being out exploring.
I always picture White Rock to be a suburban area, but I was quite surprised to see it was not at all like that. They have a lot of establishments and I love how they have several small cafe, shops and boutiques. Being in the seaside area felt like I was in a vacation.
It was so much fun. My first itinerary to do was to get something to eat. I was starving from that long trip. I already know where I am heading, to “Moby Dick” fish and chips. I actually saw this in one of the bloggers post and it seems to be a popular fish and chips place because of their free – extra piece of fish for any order of fish and chips. With everything so expensive now, that’s a great deal.
When I got there, there was a long wait for done in, 2 hrs!! With this long wait, the most sensible thing was to do a take out which was really a better option than being inside a small restaurant. The restaurant was in front of the promenade which was perfect. I had my take out and find myself a seat in the promenade facing the beautiful view in front of me while enjoying the warm of the sun. It was glorious.
I ordered 1 Piece of Fish & Chips and it comes with extra piece of fish, can’t beat that! Make sense why people are lining up. I stayed about 1 hour enjoying my food and the view, the best decision to do a take out.
After eating, I started walking the promenade heading to the White Rock Pier, Canada’s longest pier. It was a perfect day to be doing this, beautiful sunny day, a bit chilly but for me that is my definition of great weather to be out.
It was low tide when I went there and you can see from the photo people are walking in the middle which was really cool. I did the same and stroll down the pier and then it’s time for the finale … Ice Cream time! yehey!
One thing that really surprised mw was how many ice cream/gelato shops they have in the seaside area. I got my ice cream from maya’s which was right in front of the pier. I was surprised (again) how expensive it is now. I got 2 scoops in a waffle cone and I paid almost 14CAD including 15% tip.
That was quite pricey but it was a good ice cream. Maybe not a place for a family as this will cost a lot. I walked around the promenade while finishing up my ice cream and started heading home around 6:30PM. It wa a nice day, something that I would definitely do again.
White Rock Pier – Canada’s Longest Pier
The White Rock Pier is a 470-meter-long wooden structure that extends into Semiahmoo Bay. It’s a major attraction in White Rock, offering stunning views and a delightful experience. It was originally built in 1914, this unique wood pier underwent restoration in 1977. Families have created countless memories here, from leisurely walks on the beach to enjoying classic fish and chips. In December 2018, a severe winter storm tore the pier in half. However, it was repaired and reopened in the summer of 2019.
While a portion of the pier was repaired, the remaining two-thirds require reconstruction to meet current seismic safety standards. The estimated cost for this restoration work is $15 million. econstructing the pier is essential to preserving White Rock’s iconic landmark for residents, visitors, and future generations.
The Promenade
Adjacent to the pier lies the famed White Rock Promenade, spanning approximately 2.2 kilometers. he promenade offers a scenic walk along the waterfront, lined with vibrant restaurants, cozy cafes, and delightful ice cream parlors.
Dining Options
Unlike many other beaches, White Rock’s promenade boasts a wide selection of dining and drinking options. From nice seat down restaurants to small take out kiosk, this place got you covered.
One must thing to try when you are in the area is to have fish and chips and of course ice cream. I hghly recommend Moby Dick and Maya’s Ice Cream.
Dog Friendly
Between October 1 and March 31, dogs are allowed on the promenade if kept on a two-meter leash. This is definietly a good plac to take your fury friends with you on a walk.
Whether you’re strolling along the pier or taking in the ocean views from the promenade, White Rock offers a memorable experience for all.
